It is an honour to share the all powerful Word of God with you today. My name is Murphy Okpala. Today we will be continuing on the series called “The Seed Principle”, but before we go on with the discussion let’s listen to this lovely song.
Artist: Kirk Franklin
Song Title: Give Me That
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:8
Over the past 4 weeks, we have been discussing the Seed Principle. Jesus said the seed principle is the basic principle on which the kingdom of God is built so that shows how important it is for a believer to comprehend it.
In Mark chapter 4 after Jesus discussed the parable of the sower, his disciples asked Him to explain the parable but Jesus gave an interesting response before He explained it. In Mark 4:13 He said that if they don’t understand this parable they will find it difficult to understand any other parable! Is that not interesting? In order words we can say that if you don’t understand the seed principle or the principle of sowing a seed & reaping a harvest, it will be very difficult to understand how other principles in the Kingdom of God works! And if you don’t understand the principles of the Kingdom you can hardly be a fruitful Christian. So I implore you go to our website www.thecornerstoneministries.org and listen to and practice the previous episodes of this topic, “The Seed Principle”.
Jesus said the seed principle is the basic principle on which the kingdom of God is built so that shows how important it is for a believer to comprehend it.
Today we are discussing the final part of this series titled how to harvest your seed. The harvest part is just as vital as the seed part. It is a total waste of time and energy for a farmer to go out to a farm, till his ground, plant a seed, water it, weed it, and then fold his hands at the harvest time. In fact, it is the expectation of a harvest that inspires every farmer to go to work; and Bless God, in the kingdom of God, we always reap a bountiful harvest!
Therefore, just as it is needful to learn the right way to sow a seed, it is also very important to know how to reap the harvest. Proverbs 10:5 says he who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame. So evidently, everyone also has to go out to gather in the bountiful harvest.
First, let me say this here: you can only reap what you sowed. You cannot reap what someone else sowed; in the natural that will be stealing. So before you think of reaping a harvest, be sure that you sowed a seed in the past. A person that did not sow a seed, but applies the things I am about to share in reaping a harvest is like a farmer that went to his farm at the beginning of the planting season, clears the grass, prepares the land but forgets to plant seeds. But at harvest time he comes with his equipment to harvest the crop. You can imagine what he will find. So you must adequately maximize the seed or sowing time so you can enjoy the harvest time.
It is also important for you to note that there is no fixed time frame between the seed time and harvest time. It usually varies in different situations, so I advice that if you condition your mind and make the most of every opportunity as a seed time. And similarly, if you have been a diligent sower, steady your hands to always readily rake in your harvest!
That is, be a giver, give always do not hold back; and always have a constant joyful expectation to receive your harvest from God. Whenever you give anything from your heart cheerfully you are sowing a seed that will guarantee you continuous harvest. Paul said it this way; do not be weary or tired of doing good. Ecclesiastics 11 it says give to seven yes to eight, for you do not know which evil will be on the earth. It simply means that we may not always be able to see every need that will come up in the future, so sowing a seed continuously will always guarantee that there will be a harvest when the need arises. As Kenneth Copeland said it in His book Laws of prosperity, It is the most secure way to getting your needs met.
Now these are the 4 simple tools you require to reap your harvest:
- Your Expectation
- Your Words or Confessions
- Fellowship with the Holy Spirit
The First is your Expectation. Your expectation that your needs will be met because God is faithful to bless the seeds you have sown is the first guarantee that the harvest will come. Your expectation is like the fuel or the grease for the other tools required for reaping your harvest. Without a strong expectation the other tools will not work effectively. The Bible says that the expectation of the righteous will not be cut short. As people of God, we should always expect good things to happen to us. It is a very good habit to wake up every morning and fill your mind with the goodness and kindness of God and expect to experience it on a daily basis. It will help you immensely if you strongly expect that God will express his love to you in tangible ways EVERYDAY.
The second tool you require to reap your harvest is your words or confessions. We traditionally refer to confession as going to pastors or priests to tell them the things we have done wrong. That is a type of confession but in the New Testament we see confession also means saying with your mouth what you believe in your heart. In Romans 10:10 the Bible says that if we confess with our mouth Jesus is lord we will be saved. The confession of your faith is what brings victory in every situation. Our faith is never complete until we express it with our words. Remember it is only by faith we can obtain anything from God. Based on the word of God, confessing your harvest serves as a watering tool used to water your seed and cause it to grow and at the same time, confession serves as a harvesting tool which is used to harvest the crop. In Mark 11:24 Jesus said we shall have whatever we say.
The Third tool is prayer. Whenever a need arises, all you need to do is to ask God to meet your need by causing a seed you have sown in the past to yield its increase. Remember it is God that gives the increase, so you need to ask Him and you will receive it if you ask in faith not wavering through unbelief. You have sown the seed, so don’t be afraid or doubt because God is committed to give any seed you sow the right way increase. Just ask in Simple faith and you will receive the increase and have your needs met.
The final tool is your fellowship with the Spirit of God. Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes He will lead us into all truth and show us things to come. The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost and He is with you now. The Holy Spirit knows the mind of God and He knows the kind of increase God has brought for your seed. So He knows the steps you need to take in reaping the harvest. He will open your eyes to see what you need to do. If your fellowship with the Spirit is intact, He will tell what you need to do. And when you do it diligently you will reap the harvest.
In conclusion let me give you a practical example.
Sometime last year, a dire need came up for us in the Church, which we had to meet within a short time frame. I have a habit of constantly sowing material things, so I knew I had seed in the ground for the need. I went to God in prayer and asked Him in faith to provide for the need. After that I started thanking Him for the provision and kept confessing all the promises He had given me in His word. As I did this diligently for a while, I became fully persuaded that the money had been provided, but it seemed to be delaying and I was under much pressure because of time. So I went to God and asked why it had not manifested. A thought came to me to ask someone for it. But I was really hesitant because when I got my call to start the church, I made up my mind not to ask anybody but God for my needs to be met. So that thought was strange to me. But it was persistent, so I settled down to check my heart and knew it was the Holy Spirit that was nudging me. I asked Him who to ask and He told me to send an SMS to someone. I did and the harvest was bountiful. And just to show you the hand of God in this situation, the person actually said he had already planned to send us that money but had been very busy and forgot. There is absolutely no way I would have known any of that, but God did because He had already long provided for me even before my need arose.
The seed principle works, so don’t be discouraged if things seemed not to have worked in the past, learn the right way to do it and practice it by faith and you will see the faithfulness of God in Your life this year. Remember practice makes perfect. So don’t just hear the word of God, practice it and you will be blessed.
Before we end our program today I want to give you an opportunity to make Jesus Lord of your life. He wants to make Himself real to you if you will let Him. Say this simple prayer with me:
Jesus I know you are the son of God and you died for my sins. Today I give you my life, take me and change me. Be the Lord of my life. Thank you Lord, for I am now yours!
